The letter below has been mailed to each United, Continental and Continental Micronesia Flight Attendant's home.
April 11, 2011
Dear Flight Attendant:
I am writing to clear up any remaining misinformation about how seniority integration will be handled after the IAM wins the upcoming Flight Attendant representation election. To be clear:
• Seniority will be integrated by your current Date of Hire (sometimes called Date of Entry) bidding seniority date.
• No Flight Attendant will lose a single day of seniority as a result of the merger.
• No adjustments will be made that would result in Flight Attendants changing their relative position on their current pre-merger seniority list.
The Company will provide the relevant records concerning each Flight Attendant’s Date of Hire before the lists can be merged, but the Company will not merge the lists.
Any discrepancy in a Flight Attendant’s Date of Hire that appears on a merged seniority list will be addressed first by a Seniority Integration Committee. If a Flight Attendant believes that his or her Date of Hire or placement on the integrated list is incorrect, he or she can voice these concerns to the Committee.
If a Flight Attendant is not satisfied with the Committee’s response, he or she can appeal to a neutral arbitrator. The arbitrator will be empowered to determine if the Flight Attendant’s seniority is correct within the Date of Hire seniority integration framework.
Seniority integration should not be an issue in the representation election because AFA-CWA’s policy is the same as the IAM’s Date of Hire policy.
Don't be distracted by misinformation. Your current seniority date is protected. The only question you need to ask yourself is if you want the higher wages, unparalleled flexibility, pension options and true democracy that only the IAM can provide.
Sincerely,
Robert Roach, Jr.
GENERAL VICE PRESIDENT
