IAM Myth Buster: Retro Pay

MYTH: The IAM will not fight for retroactive pay for all Flight Attendants

BUSTED: The IAM is the only union with the proven ability to negotiate retro pay.

The IAM will demand full back-pay for every Flight Attendant whose contract has passed its amendable date when a new, combined agreement is reached.

The current union for United Flight Attendants has stated that if their negotiations are halted, retro pay will not be obtained. This is just another excuse from a union that is unable to negotiate retroactive pay for its members.

The IAM has a proven track record of negotiating retro pay for its members. Most recently we achieved full retro pay for over 9,000 Continental Flight Attendants as part of their interim agreement.

The IAM also negotiated retro pay in our pre-bankruptcy contract for all IAM members at United Airlines. That contract made United’s IAM members the highest paid in the industry while the airline’s Flight Attendants were still restricted by a 10-year contract.

History shows the current union representing United Flight Attendants is incapable of negotiating  retro pay for its membership while the IAM has delivered verifiable results.

United Flight Attendants have waited long enough for their retro pay. They have waited too long for a union that is responsive to their needs. But that wait will soon be over.

It is the strength and the proven ability of the IAM that produces results at the bargaining table. When all Flight Attendants stand together as part of the largest airline union in the world, the IAM will negotiate the best Flight Attendant contract in the world.
